Wrong, but I admire your spunk. For our less literate readers, I feel compelled to point out that you're one of the USA's (if not the world's) top living journalist historians). The fact that you're willing to test your knowledge outside of your area of experise gives me hope for all pundits.
This was another of my questions designed to point out the insanity of our uniquely USAer idea of "race".
In 1801, New Orleans and the state of Louisiana were still part of France, not the USA. Their laws and customs were less...er...ummm..."black or white" than ours. Based on my understanding, Barack would have been a mullato, Michelle either a quadroon, hexadroon or some lopsided mixture of predominantly African with a touch of European.
Since most American "blacks" have been unwillingly tinted with the genes of "white" slavemastes and/or their horny slavedrivers, overseeers, sons, cousins, etc., few of us are unmixed. So the fact that, here in the 21 century our leaders, schools amd media still divide us into "black" or "white" is...er...uh....kinda..."stoopid". Right?
Creole and Negro?

ReplyDeleteYou can say that again...but I still don't think I'd understand you.;)
Man, I wish I was a quadroon. It's just fun to say. Then again, caucasoid is a pretty funny word too.
